START WITH YOUR QUESTION

What brings you here?

You don’t need to know the jargon.

LOCAL IS MORE THAN A LOCATION

A policy is a document.
An agent is a relationship.

A nearby office is a starting point. Look for someone who listens, explains tradeoffs, and follows through—before and after you buy.

How to choose an agent
01

Someone who listens first

Your property, work, and priorities should shape the conversation. Look for questions before recommendations.

02

Answers you can use

A good explanation makes the choices clearer—including limits, exclusions, and what a lower price changes.

03

A relationship with follow-through

Ask how policy questions, changes, and claims support are handled. Trust grows when expectations are clear.

04

A referral that earns your trust

Neighbors can make helpful introductions. Verify licensing and decide whether the agent’s approach fits you.

LESS JARGON. MORE UNDERSTANDING.

Six terms worth knowing.

Ask your agent to show you where
each appears in your own policy.

01
Premium
The amount you pay for insurance over a stated period. It is not the amount a claim will pay.
02
Deductible
The part of a covered loss you pay under the policy. Some deductibles are a percentage, not a fixed dollar amount.
03
Limit
The most the insurer will pay for a particular coverage, subject to policy terms. Different coverages can have different limits.
04
Exclusion
A situation or type of loss the policy does not cover. Ask about exclusions before you compare prices.
05
Endorsement
A change to a policy that can add, remove, or modify coverage. Review the actual wording.
06
Declarations page
A summary of key policy details, including insured items, coverages, limits, and premiums. It is not the complete contract.
